lords prayer

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. This verse is from Matthew 6:13, part of the Lord's Prayer.

do all things, through Christ, lords prayerI love how this part of the Lord's Prayer absolutely assumes that God is leading us. It reminds me of that verse in Exodus: "In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed." Or, the psalm, "You are my shepherd." Lately I have been reading a book on thankfulness, based around 1 Thes 5:18 "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." The book suggests thankfulness for even ugly situations, like my own crummy attitude. This kind of thankfulness presupposes that the situation can be used by God to develop His goals for my life and bring Him glory. It presupposes His leadership in every rag tag area of my life, not just the good things or just the things that working out as I had planned.

Our best defense against evil is a right relationship with God. A committed heart to God. “Let those who love the Lord hate evil. For he guards the lives of his faithful ones.” Ps. 97:10 Every day I pray for guidance, to be on the right path, that the path will be lit before me. The path feels narrow and very little is lit ahead of me, but God has the future in His hands. I don't need to know the details of the future, my job is to trust the future to Him. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven

Give us today our daily bread, forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
