Abundant Living

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2).

God wants us to prosper every day in all that we do. To prosper is to flourish and become strong. When we seek Him daily, applying and practicing the Biblical principles He has given us, we will prosper in every area of our lives. We will experience better health (physical and mental), more joy, greater peace, deeper love and genuine success – true abundant living.

The opposite of prosper is failure or struggle. It is not God’s will or plan for us to fail or flounder. Jesus died so that we may have an abundant life, but first we must choose to please God and walk in His ways. It is a choice we can make as we start each day anew.

We have everything we need to flourish and grow.

He sought God…and as long as he sought the Lord, God makes him prosper. (2 Chron. 26:5). Over the course of the next few blog posts, we will explore these things that we have to flourish and grow on a daily basis.

Path of Life Psalms 16

Psalm 16 verse 11 proclaims: “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Thinking about Joy

I have been thinking about joy a lot lately. As I get older and (somewhat) wiser, I am starting to know the path of life, and allow the path before me to fill me with joy and anticipation. During my morning devotions, I have been moving away from my usual long list of supplications to devoting myself to relationship. As I open up to the Holy Spirit’s moving, I move away from negativity and worry, to thankfulness and faith. I have been inspired by some words by CS Lewis – “It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in. And so on, all day. Standing back from all your natural fussings and frettings; coming in out of the wind.”

Gifts or God?

Often what I want is gifts from God, more than God Himself. I am seeking health, wealth, safety for my children, and all the other good things in life. God may want me to have these things, but I am learning that they are nothing apart from his presence. In his presence there is joy and only there. I can be temporarily happy with some special life moment, but my continuing joy comes in pursuing a right relationship with God.

Oswald Chambers once wrote: “It is not God’s promises we need, it is God Himself.”

Messages of Peace

I especially love messages of peace in the Bible, at times they are just what my soul needs.

Matthew 11:28-30  Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Romans 5:1  Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 6:27 But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

James 3:18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Verses of peace from the Bible

A New Creation in Christ 2 Cor 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

As Christians we have new principles, new visions, new priorities, new passions and even new company. Its far more than an outward change, life has changed permanently.  Yet this isn’t something that we self generate – it comes from God, some parts right away , some parts over time.  Put on your seatbelt and get ready for the ride!

Being a new creation in Christ
